LSPc Pre-Print Inspection

Introduction

Before running a print in any LSPc printer, the operator is responsible to perform the following pre-print tasks.

1) Inspect the Membrane for damage or cured material in the vat

The Membrane is a consumable part and becomes worn over time. Replace the Membrane when wear begins to affect print quality. The Membrane should be replaced if there is any visible damage or evidence of resin leakage.

Before starting a print drag a rubber or silicone spatula over the membrane to mix up the resin which may have separated (especially for white or filled materials). You can feel if there is cured material on or under the membrane. If on the membrane, run the clean job to safely remove it. If under the membrane there is a leak and the membrane will most likely need to be replaced. Pinhole leaks will appear as a dark spot. You can see this with a translucent material, or in the wake of the spatula.

2) Inspect, then install the build plate

Inspect the build plate by wiping the locating surfaces and the print surfaces free from any cured or uncured resin. If there are thin cured layers on the build surface, use a sharp tool to scrape them off, or soak them in solvent to soften so they will wipe off. Run a steel straight edge over the print surface to ensure no projections. Inspect carefully slotted build plates and insure no cured debris in the slots.

After inspecting the plate, load it into the printer and secure it with the latch or thumb screws. The plate should not wiggle when installed.

3) Ensure sufficient clean resin

Check the resin loaded in the printer (in the vat plus in installed XiP cartridges) is enough to complete the print.

XIP - Ensure available material is at least 0.3L more than the predicted print volume.

XiP Pro and NX-Series - Ensure available material is at least 0.6L more than the predicted print volume.

Remove and filter resin once a week, or any time material cleanliness is in question. We recommend filtering with a 190um paint filter.

To prevent damage to the membrane:

  • Filter resin or run a Clean job after any failed build.
  • Handle by the frame only, avoid touching the Membrane.
  • Keep resin off the light-engine side of the membrane.
  • Membrane intended to be seated over the LCD screen only. Always keep it in a bag or provided container.
  • If changing to a different resin, clean the resin side only using a lint free wipe moistened with IPA.
  • Shelf life of the new Membrane is 2 years stored in a sealed bag.
  • Check Build Plate for cured resin or burrs before use, and clean if any.
  • Inspect membrane by using the provided silicone spatula to and avoid using sharp objects.
  • Inspect light engine surfaces and seals for cracks, burrs, or damage.
  • Clean light engine surface with 99% IPA using lint free cloth before installing membrane.
