NexaX Scaffold Supports Not Working - Solved

Q: I'm unable to generate scaffold supports in NexaX, how do I fix that?

Symptoms: When attempting to generate scaffold supports, a virus threat detection window popped up once, and supports won't generate. Pillar supports are working.

Resolution:

Option 1: Open Windows Security > Protection History, identify the threat which may be quarantined or blocked, and restore it. Do this only with the threat for affected item: C:\Program Files\Nexa X\resources\deps\SupportGenerator\vtkCommonCore-9.1.dll.

Option 2: Install Avast freeware or any other anti-virus solution, disabling Windows Security Essentials. This issue exists only with MS malware detection programs.

Option 3: Install updated version of NexaX 3.0.5-17 or later.

Background:

On August 5th 2024, Microsoft Windows Security Essentials started flagging a software library used by NexaX Scaffold Support generator as malicious. We believe this is a false positive caused by their heuristic algorithms for threat detection. The library flagged is an open source 3D visualization toolkit called VTK CommonCore which has been included in NexaX scaffold generator for over 2years without issue, and is used by a number of other commercial and academic softwares.

We have reported the issue to Microsoft, but don't have a resolution timeline from them.
